One of our favorite things about Malibu is it's proximity to lots of trails that are great for running + hiking. If you're in town make sure to check out our favorites! All of these trails are great for all runners, even if you are new to trail running as the trails are wide, well maintained and not very technical.
1. Malibu Creek / Grasslands Trail Head
PARK HERE
Many famous movies and TV shows have been filmed at Malibu Creek State Park, including M*A*S*H and Planet of the Apes. You can check out the Planet of the Apes Pond (~3 miles round trip) and the set of M*A*S*H (~7 miles round trip).
2. Chesebro Canyon
PARK HERE
Located in Old Agoura, Chesebro Canyon is a fun trail because you run through a variety of landscapes in a short amount of time and are almost guaranteed to see some horses and their riders along the way.
3. Sycamore Canyon
PARK HERE
Sycamore Canyon is a popular hiking and biking trail. The trails are nice and wide but make sure to be aware of bikers on the trail (especially if you go on a weekend). The best part of this trail is that it's slightly uphill on the way out so you feel like you are flying on the way back to your car. We recommend taking a dip in the Pacific Ocean to cool-off post run!
4. Juan Bautista de Anza Park
PARK HERE
This trail is great for trail newbies or those that are nervous to run on trails because it is very well traveled and you are never more than a mile away from a road. You can make a half roads/half trail loop from the park or run out-and-back on the main trail.
5. Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Trailhead
PARK HERE
This trail is a little more off the beaten path and a great spot to check out!
